Two Poems by Kevin Sampsell
Marino
You lose your purse in the street
You lose your cat in the woods
You lose your mind in the traffic jam
You lose your peanut butter in the fridge
You lose your balance and fall off the bridge
I dive into the cold water
and turn into a dolphin
to save you
I am shiny turquoise blue and I am wearing
a football helmet
I introduce myself as Dan Marino
and explain to you my theories
on positive thinking.
But then you ask if I’ve ever won
a Super Bowl
and I have to explain that no,
I did not win one
But I love you and that’s all that counts
I wish I could kiss you but I can’t figure
out how that works
and besides
the Coast Guard is watching
I shoot peanut butter out of my airhole for you

Sexting
It was stupid to ask
for a photo of your tits
as if for inspiration
we should be better than that
my phone feels like a bad joke in my hand
sending you penis pictures at all
hours of the day
Just send me your face
so I can pretend we’re civilized
